STAFF REVIEW
Phil EdwardsSEAL of God was quite simply one of those books that is hard to put down once you start reading it. I was fascinated by the sheer determination and iron will of a young man who sets his sights on becoming the elite of the elite within the U.S Navy...a SEAL. It is his sole dream and ambition & he willingly endures unimaginable physical and mental training to achieve his goal. But as he celebrates his graduation, he finds to his dismay that the same emptiness & sense of purposelessness he had as a teenager, is still present within him. It is a reminder to all of us that without Christ, we too are empty and wandering. Status means nothing. Dreams can be mesmerising but not fulfilling. This book is a personal testimony how a reckless young man's life is turned around when he encounters God...and his inner determination and iron will is then steered to sharing the Gospel wherever he goes. But it comes at a price. What a challenge to all of us to find our God-given calling and actually live it out.

Days before Chad Williams was to report to military duty in Great Lakes, Illinois, he turned on a television and was greeted with the horrifying images of his mentor, US Navy SEAL Scott Helvenston, being brutally murdered in a premeditated ambush on the roads of Fallujah, Iraq.

Steeled in his resolve, Chad followed in Scott's footsteps and completed the US m
ilitary's most difficult and grueling training to become a Navy SEAL. One of only 13 from a class of 173 to make it straight through to graduation, Chad served his country on SEAL Teams One and Seven for five years, completing tours of duty in the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Iraq.

Part memoir, part evangelism piece, SEAL of God follows Chad's journey through the grueling Naval Ops training and onto the streets of Iraq, where he witnessed the horrors of war up close. Along the way, Chad shares his own radical conversion story and talks about how he draws on his own experiences as a SEAL to help others better understand the depths of Christ's sacrifice and love.
